Statement/Short Biography

Often working with large quantities of information or objects, Lynn Tomaszewski mixes media and converges the disciplines of art and science with the concept of nature. The quantities of information or objects are presented with minimal interventions to reveal the connections and patterns inherent in the collections.

Her most recent work combines patterns of information (DNA sequence data, maps of the universe, political speech) with video captures of everyday events. The resulting prints, paintings and video are inspired equally by the profound and the mundane and take a broad, idiosyncratic look at the process of looking for and constructing meaning.

Tomaszewski is a Milwaukee-based artist who received a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited nationally in over 40 exhibitions as well as in Europe. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
